A pocket dimension is a theoretical self-contained space or sub-universe connected to our reality, often used in stories as a handy storage area, secluded hideaway, or extra-dimensional realm that can be accessed through portals or special objects.

 

In cosmology, a similar concept is a “pocket universe” from inflationary theory, a bubble of space-time separate from our own. These dimensions can vary wildly in size and complexity, from a simple room to a vast world, and are a popular plot device in sci-fi, fantasy, and gaming.
